No Human Is Coding Anymore. Here's What We're Doing Instead.

Every time I mention Claude Code, someone says, 'Oh, I'm not technical enough for that.' And every time, I have to resist the urge to grab them by the shoulders and say, 'It's literally just texting.'

Claude Code has the worst branding problem in AI. The word 'code' scares off exactly the people who would benefit from it most.

What It Actually Is

Claude Code is Claude — the same AI you chat with in the browser — except it can see and edit files on your computer. That's the whole difference.

You type in your terminal. But instead of typing actual code, you just... talk to it. In English. 'Hey, rename all the files in this folder.' 'Rewrite this document to be shorter.' 'Find every PDF on my desktop and organize them by date.'

Claude Code does the nerdy part. You do the thinking part.

Why You'd Want It

Regular Claude can't touch your files. You copy-paste everything in and out. Fine for quick questions. Annoying for real work.

Claude Code reads your files, edits them, creates new ones, moves things around — all while you watch and approve each step. It's like having an assistant at your computer while you tell them what to do.

Non-technical people use it for organizing messy folders, bulk editing documents, building simple websites, cleaning up data, and automating the boring stuff that eats their time. All by describing what they want in plain English.

The Philosophy

Here's what I figured out after months of using this thing: the barrier was never technical skill. It was clarity of thought.

When you talk to Claude Code, you have to know what you actually want. That sounds obvious. It's not. Most of us are so used to wrestling with tools that we never stop to ask: what am I actually trying to do here?

Claude Code forces that clarity. You describe the outcome. It handles the how. And somewhere in that exchange, you realize the 'how' was never the hard part — the 'what' was.

The Safety Net

Claude Code asks permission before doing anything significant. It tells you what it wants to do, you say yes or no. It's not going to delete your files or rewrite your novel without asking.

You're always in control. You're the boss. Claude Code is the intern who checks with you before doing anything.
