    Getting Started with Grok

Grok lives on X (Twitter) and has real-time access to what's happening. Here's how to set it up before using our Grok guides.

    What you need

    • • An X (Twitter) account with Grok access (free tier available, Premium or Premium+ for full features)
    • • A browser or the X app.
    Step 1

    Access Grok

Grok is built into X (Twitter). Click the Grok icon in the sidebar on x.com or in the X app. Free users get limited access; Premium gives you more.

You can also go to grok.x.ai directly. Premium+ gives unlimited access to the strongest model.

    Use real-time search

Grok's superpower is real-time access to X posts and web content. Ask about what's happening right now — trending topics, breaking news, live events. No other AI has this built in.

Grok sees X posts in real time. Use it for market sentiment, trending topics, or checking what people are actually saying about something.

    Upload images and files

Grok can analyze images, screenshots, and documents. Drag them into the chat or click the attachment icon.

Screenshot a chart or graph and ask Grok to analyze it. It's particularly good at reading data visualizations.

    Step 4

    Generate images

Grok can create images from text descriptions. It's less restrictive than some other AI image generators, which makes it useful for a wider range of creative work.

Be specific with your prompts. Include style, mood, and composition details for better results.

    Create custom Grok agents

You can create reusable Grok agents with saved instructions and personality. Our guides come with agent configs you can paste right in.

Look for "Create Agent" in the Grok interface. Paste instructions from your guide.

    Use DeepSearch

DeepSearch is Grok's research mode. It searches multiple sources, cross-references information, and gives you a comprehensive answer with citations.

Toggle DeepSearch on for complex research questions. It takes longer but the results are significantly more thorough.
